Senior Alex Breen finished his Royal Oak track career in style at the MHSAA Division 1 Finals, placing 2nd in the high jump. After the competition was delayed for over 2 hours due to weather, Breen calmly cleared the opening height of 6’ 0”. After another delay, he cleared 6’3” on his 2nd attempt. Breen’s final clearance came on his 1st attempt at 6’ 5”, a jump that tied his school record. After three good attempts at 6’ 6”, Breen’s Day was done when Grand Blanc’s Ethan Vargo cleared 6’ 6” on his final attempt.
Senior Drew Meinecke also performed well at the state finals, placing 17th in a time of 9:36.72. Meinecke also endured a weather delay as he prepped for his final race, but still put together a very strong race just 2 seconds off of his best time under challenging conditions.
